Gems
Just for fun . . .

Mrs. Johnston decided to have her portrait painted by a well-known artist.  She told the artist, "Paint me with
diamond earrings, a diamond necklace, an emerald bracelet, a sapphire ring and a ruby pendant."  "But you are
not wearing any of those things" said the artist.  "I know," said Mrs. Johnston.  "My health is not good and my
husband is having an affair with his secretary.  When I die, I'm sure he will marry her, and I want the witch to go
nuts looking for the jewelry."
"Jewelry takes people's minds off your wrinkles."

Ceramic Beads

The bracelet in the photo and several other pieces on the Designs page are
designed with ceramic beads hand-made and hand-painted by Ilene Fine, and
exclusively created for Frenda Mine Design.  Ms. Fine uses the Majolica glazing
technique.  Traditionally, Majolica refers to earthenware that has been glazed with
a white, tin based glaze upon which color has been applied.  Its origins date back
to the 9th Century in the Middle East when Persian potters began to imitate the painting found on Chinese
porcelains.  When the Spanish brought the technique back to Spain and Italians then imported the ware from
Majorca, the term Majolica was born.  It may be recognized as Faience in France or is popular in Holland as
Delftware.
